The worlds greatest creative workshop is looking for the worlds greatest creative projects shop manager. Autodesk's Pier 9 facility is a brand new 27,000 sq/ft office and shared workshop that is home to the Autodesk Consumer Group located on the bay in San Francisco, CA. Never before have so many production quality machines been assembled under one roof in order to fuel the creative prototyping process. We have a CNC shop complete with an Omax 5 axis water jet, 11 axis Mori Seki milling center, Haas 4 axis mill and CNC lathe with life tooling, and a DMS 5 axis router. We have a wood shop, spray booth, metal shop with manual mill and lathe, a digital fabrication lab stocked with 3d printers and laser cutters ranging from 75 to 400 watts, a project assembly room, electronics lab, industrial sewing stations and a test kitchen. We are almost fully stocked and staffed, and are looking for the last piece of the puzzle with our shop manager.
Equipped with tools and talent, the Pier 9 workshop will serve Autodesk employees and enable them to have access to top notch tooling in order to design, fabricate, document and share the work we do using Autodesk's top notch software products. Additionally, the pier supports and Artist in Residence program where the worlds finest makers, hackers, tinkerers, fabricators, chefs, programmers, artists and craftsmen are invited to join us to share their specialty across our communities on our unique tooling. In short, the Pier is tasked with nothing less than inspiring all those who create, by being the leader in creative design and fabrication and supporting the communities doing that work.
The shop manager position currently open is responsible for keeping our shop stocked and running. Our unique tooling requires someone who has experience in multi-axis machining, cad/cam software, machine troubleshooting and basic repair, digital fabrication, creative fabrication, team management and excellent communication skills. Things like experience with robot arms and production quality 3d printers are a bonus, but are skills that can also be learned, as the perfect fit for this position will be someone who is humbled by what they don't know, excited by what they can learn, and passionate about what they can share with others. When tools are running well, the shop manager is responsible for working within a team of other shop managers and workshop monitors to assist users when necessary, improve and refine our workshop systems, and work on creative projects of their own.
